A scaffold relies on all available support to remain stable and safe for workers, whether they’re working at heights or on the ground. Shrink wrap is one of the reinforcements used to achieve this standard.

In our previous article, we explained the basics of shrink wrap. In this one, we’ll highlight how it works and stands out from alternatives like debris netting and scaffold sheeting

1. Shrink wrap offers drum-tight fit that others don’t

Shrink wrap achieves its drum-tight fit effect not from cable or toggle ties, but through a heat weld tool like shrink gun. When exposed to heat, it undergoes a process called biaxial shrinking, where it contracts in every direction. This creates a taut covering that avoids flapping in high winds, unlike nets and sheets that may loosen in such conditions. Shrink wrap’s drum-tight fit also makes it virtually impossible to break through, thus resulting in peak resistance levels.

2. Versatile ‘wrapping’ applications

Shrink wrap’s “shrink to fit” solution makes it adaptable to all shapes and sizes for various scaffolding and worksite applications. It conforms to the contours of almost any surface, perfect for covering irregularly shaped structures like scaffolding towers and rooms under construction to contain dust and debris. The wrap can be custom cut and welded specifically for each project, so you’re not restricted by the size or shape of whatever you’re working on.

3. Shrink wrap provides full scaffold coverage

Once shrunk, shrink wrap ensures that no gaps or openings are left, preventing outsiders from seeing through the covered area. This is beneficial if you’re working on a project that needs to be kept under wraps for a ‘big reveal’ or if the client wants to conceal what’s going on ‘behind the scenes.’

It also provides a great opportunity for companies to promote their business by adding custom prints to the wrap film. As the wrap stays in place without flapping, anyone passing by can easily see and read the branding or promotional message on the spot.

Note: Only qualified and trained operatives should install shrink wrap to ensure proper application and safety. Wearing heatproof leather gloves or gauntlets is recommended for protection. If any holes appear, they should be covered with shrink wrap patch tape.
